Mountain and Valley Fiber Arts Festival
The Mountain and Valley Fiber Arts Festival is a weekend event at the La Plata County Fairgrounds in Durango, Colorado. A juried vendor market sells raw wool, fiber, yarn, tools, and finished work, while sheep, alpacas, goats, and llamas are right there on the grounds for you to visit between shopping. Free demonstrations of spinning, dyeing, and sheep shearing run throughout the weekend, and paid workshops with regional instructors go deeper on specific techniques. Durango's setting in the Southwest Colorado mountains puts this festival in a part of the country where the fiber community is spread across a lot of open space, which makes a weekend gathering point all the more worth the drive.
