Frederick Fiber Fest (Fall)
Frederick Fiber Fest is a single-day festival at the Frederick Fairgrounds in Frederick, Maryland. What gives this one some texture is the vendor mix: several vendors process and dye wool from their own heritage breed farms, including Dutch wools and Pennsylvania-raised fleeces, so you're buying from people with a direct hand in the fiber from flock to skein. Classes and demonstrations cover a wider range than you might expect for a one-day event, including supported spindle spinning, rigid heddle weaving, needle felting, tatting, and beginner instruction in knitting and crochet. Tatting is an older lace-making technique with a smaller but dedicated following, and its presence on the schedule says something about the breadth this festival is going for.
