Fiber Week
Fiber Week at North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minnesota takes place on the shore of Lake Superior and runs for a full week. This is an intensive, course-based event rather than a weekend festival: you enroll in individual classes that run two to four days, working alongside visiting artisans in a traditional folk school campus setting. Instructors come from Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and across the United States, and the coursework reflects that range, covering everything from Norwegian Hardanger embroidery and Icelandic wool processing to weaving, spinning, felting, and natural dyeing. Midway through the week, Fiber Friday opens things up with a free day of speaker presentations, demonstrations, and a Fiber Fun Fair with drop-in activities. Evening programming runs throughout the week with presentations and a show-and-share. If you want to spend a week learning from international instructors with Lake Superior outside the window, this is that kind of event.
